First, let’s not panic Why do we have this impression that we will no longer be able to enjoy a wood-burning fireplace when the new October 1st regulation on solid-burning heating appliances becomes effective?
Wood fireplaces will not become forbidden Of course, realizing how polluting the old fashion slow combustion fireplaces were, the design and manufacture of the wood burning fireplace has been redesigned to meet new standards for reduced solid particle emissions.
Good to know We mainly need to be sure that the used fireplace is EPA certified and complies with the CAN / CSA-B415.1 on Performance Testing of Solid-Fuel-Burning Heating Appliances. If the fireplace is not certified and does not meet this standard, it must obviously be changed to a conform fireplace in order to be used as of October 1st.
The answer If the fireplace insert needs to be switched to a new one, it would be the ideal occasion to consider all the available options – EPA certified wood fireplace or propane or natural gas, electric, pellet or ethanol fireplace. Some combustion sources are more environmentally friendly, affordable and easy to maintain than others and knowing the specifications of each option is ideal to make the best choice. Our Poêles et Foyers Futuristes team is eager to help with information on the different types of fireplaces.
Being ready On October 1st, the best way to continue to enjoy your fireplace, is to either already comply with the new standards or, if necessary, have adapted our fireplace insert. Here is a very relevant French article published by the APC (Les professionnels du chauffage d’appoint) indicating the standards to follow according to the borough – Normes à suivre selon l’arrondissement
